WORK FOCUS
For several years, Dr. Payne has been working on culturally tailoring Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for African American communities. She has developed a model called POOF (Pulling Out Of Fire) (www.POOF-PullingOutOfFire.com), where she addresses historical, intergenerational, and racial trauma that African Americans may experience. Dr. Payne has engaged in ongoing research on the application of the social determinants of health to ACT for traumatized African Americans. She is a board member (basic science) and an inducted ACBS Fellow within the Association of Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS).
